This rare small sword, also known as a rapier or colichemard (sword) was made by the well-known and prolific Boston silversmith Jacob Hurd (1702/3-1758). It retains it original leather scabbard. It bears the engraved name of I.F. Brackett, possibly for Capt. John Brackett (1700-1758). Given in the early 1920s by a descendant of I.F. Brackett, Simeon Smith Brackett (1848-1925) of Greenland, N.H. It is one of only about ten swords bearing Hurd's mark.
